Butterflies
Altogether 148 species of butterflies have been noted and recorded from the region. These include 14
endemics and 12 rare, protected under various schedules of Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Rare,
endemic and endangered species from the areas include Malabar banded swallow tail (Papilio liomedon),
Malabar rose (Pachliopta pandiyana), Paris peacock (Papilio paris), Budhha peacock (Papilio buddha),
Malabar raven (Papilio dravidarum), Painted sawtooth (Prioneris sita), Small leopard (Phalanta alcippe),
Suastus gremiu s, Indian Palm Bob
Malabar tree nymph (Idea malabarica ).
